Our two-storied, 60 year-old hillside bach at Hahei was overdue for a major deck rebuild and renovation of the house ocean side aspect. As a prominent older bach we were keen to develop a strong contemporary style, but retain and enhance our holiday living. Andre at Cassa was keen from the start and introduced us to their architecture partner DF Design and together with surveyor, engineering and planning contacts successfully tackled the 30 degree slope and some challenging site and consent issues. Covid lockdown also delayed consents, however even with a delayed construction start Cassa completed the job on a revised schedule by mid December 2020 for our family Xmas, followed by final Council sign off in early 2021. We agreed early on to a ‘Labour Only’ basis to manage the contingencies of an old house repair with a lot of changes in scope, design and materials.

Through all this Andre was always available by phone or email and for onsite meetings, attentive, friendly and proactive with useful design and materials choices and for budgeting scope and design changes. We benefited from his contacts and smooth management of sub trades, including new suppliers. It was a good, but challenging contract, we’ve had some great local feedback on the job and we enjoyed working with Andre and the team.

Andre was always responsive to meeting requests, questions and any issues that arose and continues to keep in touch with us as minor issues or questions arise. We are delighted with the final product and look forward to a long and enjoyable lifestyle in our stunning waterways home.

We had started planning our Whitianga retirement home years ago and came across a Cassa Homes house, the Blackjack. We immediately loved the look and style of this house. We contacted Andre and told him we would be a few years away from building and would keep in touch. We designed our home, emphasizing an open plan, maximum use of the sun and a good street appeal.
